About me
My name is Jen. I am 30 years old and currently live in the North of Germany (although I will be moving to Glasgow, Scotland later this year) I work as a librarian at the moment but dream of becoming a nutritional therapist in the near future. I am very interested in nutrition and my passion lies within cooking and baking healthy and nourishing foods with real food ingredients.
I love cats, walking in the forest and all things green. I also like to add my thoughts to something I just said in brackets (you’ll see [it will get on your nerves very soon])
My first contact with the paleo approach was in the middle of 2014 when I came across a paleo cook book in the library. After trying it (on and off) for a while, I went full paleo in early 2015. I gradually added a few things back into my diet ever since then to make it more varied. I believe the paleo diet is a great template to start with for everybody who wants to change their lifestyle and become healthier. It is not my belief, however, that something is automatically “unhealthy”, just because our ancestors did not eat it. Everybody is different. Some people may be able to tolerate things just fine that others don’t. It is important to find out what works best for you and your body!
So while all of my recipes are gluten- & refined sugar-free, not all of them are paleo. I enjoy eating oats, rice or buckwheat occasionally (especially on days where I’m physically active) as well as raw, grass-fed dairy (mostly in the form of aged cheese since I’m lactose-intolerant) because I believe in their nutritional value. Most of my recipes are still paleo-friendly though, or can be made paleo easily.
I came to this lifestyle after spending most of my teenage years and my adulthood on some diet. Low-carb, fast diet, cabbage soup – you name it, I’ve tried it. Sometimes I lost weight, sometimes I didn’t but I always felt deprived and unhappy. It got to a point where it just had to stop and I decided that instead of short-term dieting I would change my whole lifestyle. That’s what choosing to eat real, clean food ultimately is – a lifestyle and not another diet. You can be happy, reach a healthy weight AND enjoy food at the same time. You can still enjoy the occasional treat too 😉
That is why I have started this blog, to make it easier for you and share my yummy & truly nourishing recipes with you!
